My Perfect Picnic

Welcome to my day in the Perfect Picnic Blog Hop!

Thanks to Mdm. Samm of Sew We Quilt
for the wonderful Picnic idea and to
Mary of I Piece 2-Mary for organizing this awesome hop!
A special thanks goes to Riley Blake Designs
for the beautiful laminate they provided,
for the awesome inspiration,
and our hop sponsor, Peterboro Baskets

For my Perfect Picnic,
I made this fun quilt
using Allison Designs’s Patch-No-Work! pattern
in black & white with a little touch of red!
Of course, I had to have a little applique!
So I used my favorite tool,
the Silhouette Cameo,
and cut out our initials
to make these little pillows for our picnic…
I loved working with the beautiful
red & white polka dot laminate Riley Blake provided
and created a liner to go under my quilt
to keep it clean and dry!
Sewing the laminate was made easier with
my Bernina Teflon foot!
These great tarp/canopy clips with tent pegs
held the four corners of the liner down.

Hubby and I had a wonderful picnic on the grounds
of Rosedown Plantation in St. Francisville, LA…

…even the local wild life came out to greet us!

There were several antique quilts
on display at the house
and a sewing machine from the 1800s

The flowers were beautiful…

…a few favorites.

For our picnic,
I made a Crawfish Casserole,
Mexican Cornbread,
and a Broccoli Salad…
…we finished off our meal with
watermelon and Three-Story Dream Pie…
… with a cherry on top,
played Mancala,
and read Nicholas Sparks’ The Notebook
We had a wonderful time!

What a wonderful picnic. I sometimes forget how beautiful it is that far south. Lived in New Orleans for a year, about 30 some odd years ago. Old plantation homes are amazing. Your picnic quilt is gorgeous. I love the subtle gradations of color and the red in the center makes it qwesome. Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures today.

Cherry you've done it again – another beautiful quilt! Do you live in Louisiana – I don't think I knew that? My husband and I volunteer at a mission in south Louisiana a couple of times a year and love the old plantations. I'm now following on Bloglovin and yes, I've liked you on Facebook. 🙂 blessings, marlene

Your picnic looks elegant Cherry ! A beautiful setting, pretty picnic paraphernalia and a very clever idea to use tent stays to hold the laminate in place.

Hi Cherry! Talk about a beautiful post. Everything you did was so elegant, everything! The quilt was perfect and so were the pillows…what else do you want to do after eating but lay down 🙂
I looks like it was a great day on a lovely old plantation!

Your quilt and pillows are phenomenal! The pictures of the scenery just kept getting better and better and more inviting. I think everyone will be adding the Rosedown Plantation as a place to visit. It was perfect for a picnic and would could be more thrilling for a quilter than an antique sewing machine and quilts to view. Not being where we readily have crawfish, I have never encountered Crawfish Casserole. The Three-Story Dream pie looks delicious and is another new dish to me. Thank you for joining the hop and giving us lots of dreamy eye candy and inspiration.

  13. Corrie says:

  14. Deonn says:

Oh, my goodness, Cherry! Lovely quilt, lovely setting (wow – a plantation, none the less!) Great trick with the tarp clips to anchor the laminate as a liner. And yes, the teflon foot makes sewing the laminate a piece of cake! Or three-story dream pie, that is!! Oh, my your picnic looks oh, so delicious – and such a pretty way to pack it all in that basket – will you share recipes for your casserole and pie? Wonderful pictures in a beautiful setting. Looks like the perfect picnic to me!

  15. Amy says:

Cherry, it is absolutely stunning. The quilt, picnic and setting are just picture perfect. Thanks for sharing your picnic with all of us.

  16. Mara says:

I follow your blog and omg! I love your quilt, your food looks sooooo yummy (do you have the recipe for the 3 story dream pie) and the flowers and grounds that you picnic-ed at OH MY, Lovely!

  17. Carla says:

Your post is so cheerful and inspirational. Love the effect of the red and black fabrics on the quilt and your pillows are just so sweet. You have great photos of your picnic and that plantation is a great spot for a picnic. I'm so hungry now that I've seen and read your menu.

  18. LJ says:

Honest, I don't think you have made anything that I didn't like and this picnic quilt and the pillows are no exception. I never get tired of blk and white and your sense of how to blend the fabrics is awesome. The spot of color (pink is my favorite color) is perfect. I love that the laminate is a separate piece; I must check out those clips, too. What a fun picnic and the menu was lovely.

  19. madebymeinred says:
