New Blog Hop & Tutorial

Welcome to my day in
the Fall Machine Embroidery Blog Hop

I had a great time making this scarf with my embroidery machine

and Marjorie’s Snowflake embroidery design

The applique can be cut out with the Accuquilt GO! Snowflake

The top of the scarf is made with 1/4 yd cuts of (4) blue
and (1) white batik fabrics
and 1/2 yd Rose Cuddle fabric for the back

If you have a GO cutter, prepare the applique pieces
by cutting the white fabric into
(6) 4 1/4″ x 4 1/2″ squares,
fuse Light Steam a Seam 2 to the wrong side of the fabric,
and cut out with the snowflake die

Next, cut (2) 3″ strips by WOF from each of the blue fabrics

sew (4) strips together

and press the seams open.
Repeat with the remaining strips

Since the scarf is lined with “Cuddle” fabric and not quilted,
I decided to embellish with a pretty little stitch

 and
metallic thread

To avoid thread breakage,
I loosened the top tension on my machine,
used a large size needle

and sewed at a slow speed

Next, measure the width of your sewn strips,

 cut (6) blocks… mine measure 10 1/2″
so I cut (6) 10 1/2″ blocks
and arrange them as follows

Now sew them together
and embellish the joining seam

I had some leftover strips, so I cut (3) 3″ strips

to make this practice piece
Now for my favorite part… the applique
Remove the Lite Steam a Seam liner from the back of the snowflake
and finger press (do not heat fuse yet) in place onto the background fabric

Now it’s time to get the embroidery hoop ready!
Hoop a stabilizer and spray a little temporary fabric adhesive
on the center of the stabilizer

find the center of the snowflake

align in the prepared hoop,
remove the snowflake

place the hoop in the machine
and stitch the placement lines

place the snowflake inside the stitch lines
and press with a small iron

Return the hoop to the machine
and finish stitching the designs

Next, trim 1/2″ off on both sides of the scarf.

With the Rose Cuddle fabric right side up,
lay the scarf face down
and pin in place.

Stitch all around with a 1/4″ seam,
leaving a 6-7″ opening to turn right side out.
Trim the excess Cuddle fabric,

turn right side out, sew the opening
and stitch the top edges down with an 1/8″ seam.

So simple, fun to make
and super soft!

… and my little practice piece
I think I’ll make a mug rug °Ü°!

Marjorie is giving away a design from her collection of machine
embroidery designs, and the winner gets to choose!!!
To win, leave a comment telling me
which of Marjorie’s embroidery designs you would love to have
and for a second chance, comment on what kind of die
would you have custom made for the GO! cutter.
I will chose a winner next Friday, 11/16.

So glad you stopped by!

Your scarf instructions have given me so many great ideas, and I love your idea of using Cuddle fabric on the back. I want like any of the heart design collections.

Wow! I LOVE this scarf. It's awesome and what's really funny is that I just recently, about two weeks ago saw this Rose Cuddle and fell in love with it. I was trying to figure out what I could use it on and now I have a fabulous idea from you.

My two favorites from Marjories site (I can't make up my mind because there are SO many I'd love to have) are teh Go! Zoo Animals and the Go! Birds. BUT, now with your project, I think the snowflakes may have moved to the top of my little wish list I have for her design sets. ugh decisions, decisions.

I think it would be great to see dies to use in kitchen gift ideas. Things like a mixing bowl, measuring spoons and measuring cups etc. Maybe a mixer; hand and similar to a Kitchen Aid stand mixer. Things like that which could be used to create gifts or things for my own kitchen. Decorating dish towels, making kitchen curtains, using them to create cute stand mixer covers. How about using something like that to create cookbook covers and applique those items onto the front and applique letters (or even better machine embroider the name of your cookbook you've created the cover for).

After seeing your tutorial on the scarf..I would really enjoy having the snowflake design. Your scarf is wonderful! Of course if I made one for myself then I would be asked to make more for my family! Humm…I would like to see a die for for something for the kitchen also.

Thanks for the great tut on your scarf. The snowflake is beautiful; I didn't realize how large it was until seeing it on the scarf. With Cuddle on the back, I'm sure it's extra warm. Thanks for a chance to win Marjorie's designs.

Cherry, this is a really darling project — and you made it looks so easy (which I'm sure it wasn't quite *that* easy)! I like the snowflake, actually — it takes me from pre-Christmas all the way thru winter! 🙂

  7. Rebecca Grace says:

What a fantastic project, Cherry! I never thought of making a scarf like that, and I love your beautiful fabric choices. Thanks also for explaining the process of preparing the fabric for die cutting, since I don't have a die cutter (yet!) and I'm still learning and thinking about how I'd use one.

All of Marjorie's designs are so pretty, but I think I'd love to have the snowflake one you used in this project. In different colored fabrics and threads, it could be a flower as well as a snowflake — I think it would be fun to play with.

Dies I would like to see come on the market? Applique flowers with really intricate edges, like lacy parrot tulips or multi-layered full-blown roses — things that would be nearly impossible to do well the old fashioned way. That would really take advantage of the die cutting and digitizing technologies. Oh, and a huge, ornate PEACOCK would be fantastic, too! 🙂

I have passedd this one onto AQ before…a cute pig die.

But then when I read the comments, I love the idea of the kitchen things..mixing bowl, wooden spoons, etc..for kitchen towels. YES!

I recently purchased an Accuquilt Go! and several dies. I don't yet have the snowflake, but after seeing so many uses of this die recently, it is one that I will be buying. Your scarf looks so warm and snuggely.

Thanks for the tutorial. The Sunbonnet Sue would be great. I have that die, but haven't used it yet. I can just see using up lots of stash fabrics to make different Sues.

OH!!! would love the Hearts! But first I'd get the Snowflake…just so I could follow your Tutorial! lol Do looooove your scarf!

Thanks for chance to win your Drawing!! 🙂

  12. OhioLori says:

If I could have a special die set made….I'd like a set like a Paperdoll w/different shapes to make outfits…like dress, top, pants, Hat, Shoes, Nightie… Think it'd be fun to use as appliqued T-shirts, and asst'd Quilt Blocks for lil' Girl's!

Thanks for a second chance to win! Yay!! 🙂
