I Dare to Dresden!

Welcome to my day in the Dare to Dresden Blog Hop!
Thanks Christine of Quilt Monster in My Closet,
and Mdm. Samm of Sew We Quilt for all your hard
I made this quilt while on retreat

 and loved the fabric…
it’s a line by Moda: Mama Said Sew…

so I made a little pillow to go with my quilt

of course, the idea of making a whole
Dresden quilt with this fabric
is very tempting, lol!
Then, I knew I had to make something else, he he!,
so I went on a little “inspiration” search on Google
and found this fabulous quilt

Immediately, I knew I had to make one like it!!!
but after searching for countless hours,
and having no luck finding the pattern,
decided to shop for the fabric
and make something similar…

Okay, before we go on,
please put your sunglasses on…

Alrighty, this is it:

I tried several colors for the center squares,
and orange won… again, lol!

Oh my word, I AM IN LOVE
with chevrons…

Well, last night while on Pinterest,
I found it again! and I’m so happy it lead me to the
designer’s website: Victoria Findlay
… her work is fantastic…thanks Victoria for the inspiration!

And thank YOU for taking the time
to look at my little Dresden projects!
I hope you enjoy visiting the other ladies
sharing their Dresdens today!

Happy hopping,

ooh those chevrons look fantastic in the blades, wow, what an absolutely stunning quilt you made. I like your little cushion in the red/black/white fabric too.

  2. Kris says:

Oh, Cherry, as soon as I scrolled down and saw your pillow, I said "fabulous!!" and then saw your inspired Dresdens and went WOW!!! Just wonderful, all of them!!

  3. Debby says:

Beautiful!! And your work incorporating chevrons into those dresden wedges is amazing. I like that you went ahead WITHOUT someone else's pattern. Original and uniquely yours. And orange is a great background color.

I have some of that Mama Said Sew fabric and totally love it. Your Dresden pillow is gorgeous in that fabric! The chevrons on your other one is beautiful as are those Dresdens. Love them both!

It does not surprise me that the original was Victoria's but I really like you version too! I just came from the Traveling Quilter's post where she did a lace Dresden. Your use of the white with the chevrons looks "lacy" to me too! Really like this concept!

  8. Nellie Duclos says:

Hi Cherry-Aren't Dresden's fun? I think I may never get tired making them, which is unusual for me, because the fabric combinations are endless. I love chevrons too, but have been unable to find the right colors in my area-I guess I'll have to get some on-line. From CA, thanks for sharing.

  9. Tammy says:

Both projects are wonderful! I have always loved black and white so the first one was a winner right away. Your a great designer and so your 2nd project is marvelous. I was especially fond of the 2 half-dresdens around the large center dresden.

And they are so worthy – fantastic Dresdens. Itsn't it amazing how obsessive and compulsive we become when somethings truly "speaks to us," and the hunt takes over. Thanks from Judy C in NC

I love the quilt you made at retreat and the dresden pillow compliments it beautifully. A whole quilt of Dresden blocks in that fabric would be amazing. I love the orange quilt it is so bright, cheerful and cheeky, definitely a quilt with attitude.

I also fell in love with the Mama Said Sew collection. I just love the wonderful designs in each of those fabrics. I love what you created using that fabric line. Just beautiful!

And then the Dresden and Chevron!!! OMG That is just gorgeous. What a beautiful piece of work. Wow. Love it!

  14. Quilt n Queen says:

Beautifully done Cherry!! Love the Mama Said Sew Dresden, love that fabric line too….wowwwzee, your chevron Dresdens are amazing!! Thanks for sharing your inspiration! Happy stitching, Pauline

  15. Suze says:

Maybe someone will know the quilt pattern. One can only hope. Maybe if you write to Michael Miller fabrics and send the photo? It is obviously from a trade show. You would think someone would know.

I love both your examples. They are wonderful. If it were me, I'd go for the more traditional red, white and black. That is what makes this blog hop so great, we get to see things that would be outside our own comfort zone and it encourages us to try things that we might not normally do. Thank you for being a great inspiration and sharing your creativity. Jobs well done!

Love the chevrons in a dresden pattern–wonderful job! And yes, Victoria is fantastic. I've been participating on her 15minutesplay blog for about 8 months. She offers up plenty of inspiration!
