It’s my day in the…

See you in September Blog Hop
A huge thanks to Shari of Living With Purpose
and to Mdm Samm of Sew We Quilt for hosting another incredible hop.

This summer has just flown by,
and I’ve had so much fun working
on a few projects to show ya’ll.
Of course, when I signed up for this hop
I came up with so many projects,
it would’ve taken until See you in September 2015…
perhaps 2016 to have them finished, lol!
so here’s what I was able to make for 2014:

First, I want to show you my gingham project…
I thought about many thinks to make
with the layer cakes and jelly roll I purchased,
but then, I spotted my American Doll bed just sitting there,
patiently waiting for a cute quilt,
so I decided it was the perfect opportunity
to get going on a mini for it, and boy was it fun!

I drew the little dresses,

cut them out with my Silhouette Cameo,
and then embroidered them on my new Bernina…
which I love, love, love…
The little dresses are so tiny,
I was able to hoop 8 of them in one large hoop!
Then it was a matter of adding a little sashing,
a few borders, some quilting and binding,
and I had a cute little mini!
The little bed comes with a mattress and pillow,
so I made a quick little pillow sham to match the quilt,
now I just need a to get one of those cute dolls, don’t you think?

Project number two was for my hubby’s office,
sorry about the poor photo quality…
all the taupe triangles have koi quilted on them…
Hubby loved how it turned out!

The third project was part of a challenge with my Monday guild.
We were to create a cow inspired by the book “Out of the Box”
by Mary Lou Weidman & Melanie Bautista McFarland.
I was a personal trainer for many years,
so decided to make a “fitness” cow…
goodness, I had so many things I wanted to add,
but ran out of time… I still had so much fun with this one,
especially coming up with her list of exercises…
Would love to make a few more quilts
with Mary Lou’s techniques.

My Lagniappe project
was this super fast Twister quilt
I used Quilter’s Dream Request cotton batting,
a very thin bat perfect for a summer quilt.

So… I loved playing with my gingham
and want to share the fabric I didn’t use…
I’d like to give away these two RB Layer Cakes to one of ya’ll…
to enter, leave me a comment and tell me:
what makes a quilt “modern” to you?
A winner will be chosen on Sunday, September 14.

Let’s Celebrate…

Happy 4th of July!
To celebrate,
I’m sharing this little mug rug pattern
and two of the recipes I made for my Perfect Picnic:
Crawfish Casserole
and Three Story Dream Pie,
also known as Mississippi Mud Pie.
This little Uncle Sam’s Bouquet mug rug
finishes at 6″ x 10″ and
is a super easy and fun little project,
perfect for a gift or quick little decoration!
I made it for a Flickr swap some time ago…
Get the free appliqué pattern here

 Have you ever had crawfish?
also called mud-bugs?
They really are good with a little sweet taste
and can be found in the freezer isle of your grocery store,
just make sure you only buy a product of the US…
My Aunt Pearl shared this recipe with me
and it has become one of my favorites!
Crawfish Casserole
Ingredients:
1 lb Crawfish tails (I used a 12oz. pack)
1 can French Onion soup
1 can Cream of Chicken soup
1 cup parboiled rice
1 stick of butter
1/2 cup celery, diced
1/2 cup green bell pepper, diced
1 can Rotel “Original” tomatoes
Mix all ingredients together and bake at 350° F,
covered for 45 minutes,
then uncover and bake 15 minutes.

Now this one is a favorite dessert of everyone in my family…

Three-Story Dream Pie
This pie is made in layers…
Crust:
1 stick of butter, melted
1 cup flour
1 cup pecans, chopped
1 tsp sugar
Blend the flour, sugar, and butter, then add the pecans.
Press onto a 2 quart baking dish and bake at 350° F
for 20-25 minutes. Set aside to cool.
1st Story:
1 cup powdered sugar
1 package cream cheeses (8 oz)
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup whipped topping
Cream the cheese and powdered sugar until smooth;
add the sour cream and vanilla. Blend in the whipped topping.
Spoon this mix over the Crust and spread carefully.
2nd Story:
2  4.5 oz Instant Chocolate Pudding boxes
3 cups milk
1 tsp vanilla
In a mixing bowl, blend the dry chocolate pudding, milk,
and vanilla. Pour over the 1st Story and allow to set.
3rd Story:
2 cups whipped topping
1 Hershey’s chocolate bar
Spread the whipped topping over the 2nd Story
and garnish with grated Hershey’s chocolate,
or use strawberries and blueberries and decorate as an American Flag.
Chill thoroughly and serve.
…yum!
I hope you have an awesome 4th with friends and family!

My Perfect Picnic

Welcome to my day in the Perfect Picnic Blog Hop!
Thanks to Mdm. Samm of Sew We Quilt
for the wonderful Picnic idea and to
Mary of I Piece 2-Mary for organizing this awesome hop!
A special thanks goes to Riley Blake Designs
for the beautiful laminate they provided,
for the awesome inspiration,
and our hop sponsor, Peterboro Baskets

For my Perfect Picnic,
I made this fun quilt
using Allison Designs’s Patch-No-Work! pattern
in black & white with a little touch of red!
Of course, I had to have a little applique!
So I used my favorite tool,
the Silhouette Cameo,
and cut out our initials
to make these little pillows for our picnic…
I loved working with the beautiful
red & white polka dot laminate Riley Blake provided
and created a liner to go under my quilt
to keep it clean and dry!
Sewing the laminate was made easier with
my Bernina Teflon foot!
These great tarp/canopy clips with tent pegs
held the four corners of the liner down.

Hubby and I had a wonderful picnic on the grounds
of Rosedown Plantation in St. Francisville, LA…

…even the local wild life came out to greet us!

There were several antique quilts
on display at the house
and a sewing machine from the 1800s

The flowers were beautiful…

…a few favorites.

For our picnic,
I made a Crawfish Casserole,
Mexican Cornbread,
and a Broccoli Salad…
…we finished off our meal with
watermelon and Three-Story Dream Pie…
… with a cherry on top,
played Mancala,
and read Nicholas Sparks’ The Notebook
We had a wonderful time!

Thanks everyone for visiting on my day of
the Let’s Twist to the 60’s Blog Hop
and sharing about your favorite quilting too!
Yes, most of us love our rotary cutters
and I know I probably would not have started quilting without it,
but at the moment, the Silhouette Cameo
is my favorite and most useful tool!
Have you ever heard of it?
It’s an electronic die cutter and a totally awesome tool!
I will tell you all about it soon!
Hope you’re having a great weekend!

It’s my day… and a little giveaway… °Ü°

Oh what fun it’s been seeing all the great 60’s
and batik creations made for this hop
hosted by Mary from I piece 2-Mary
and Mdm Samm over at Sew We Quilt!
Thank you ladies for another great hop!
October 3
When trying to decide what to make,
I just had to take one look at our hop button
and knew it would be a Twister project!
I loved playing Twister with my siblings
and was inspired by the game’s spinner
so I made this little mug rug to
go with the Twister mug I found on EBay!
and used some of the Island Batik fabrics I used
to create a Batik version of my new pattern, Sunday Ride
And since this hop is all about batiks…
I made this runner using my Propelled pattern
and used more fabric by Island Batik
Would you like to make this runner?
I have 2 pre-cut runner kits, each with a Propelled pattern
to giveaway to 2 of y’all!
You have until Wednesday, Oct 9 to enter
a Rafflecopter giveaway
So glad you came over for a visit
and hope you’re enjoying this wonderful hop!
Hugs,
