Gathered Treasures – PDF Blackbird’s Bounty Mystery Stitch-A-Long Block 6

Celebrate the colors and textures of autumn with a whimsical gathering of blackbirds, sunflowers, pumpkins and sewing room treasures.

At the center of the design is a primitive tin can filled with favorite notions, including scissors, thread, a pincushion, measuring tape and a carved wooden button. Two curious blackbirds have joined the scene, surrounded by sunflowers, berries, fall leaves and a pumpkin.

Hand stitched details make this block especially fun to create. Fly stitches and French knots add texture and dimension to the sunflowers, while the pincushion holds tiny “pins” created with silver thread and topped with seed beads.

Special embellishments add even more personality throughout the design. Two shiny metal charms dangle from the blackbirds’ beaks, iridescent beads give their eyes a subtle sparkle, and two wooden acorn buttons are nestled among the autumn leaves. A length of ribbon is tucked into the tin can with the end left loose, adding another bit of dimension and movement.
